  • Since the late 1980s, President Donald Trump and financier Jeffrey  Epstein have run in the same circles. They're both rich men. They own private jets. They're neighbors in Palm Beach. They've been documented attending parties and sharing planes.
  • Epstein was arrested on July 6 on charges of sex trafficking and sex trafficking conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty in court. He previously pled guilty  in 2007 to two charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution, and spent 13 months in county jail.
  • But Trump has distanced himself from Epstein in the last several years. Here's a closer look at the timeline of their relationship.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.
Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is no longer on the Trump's Christmas card list. Epstein was arrested July 6 on charges of sex trafficking and sex trafficking conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty. Epstein and President Donald Trump have a long, documented relationship. Epstein reportedly bragged he introduced the president to his wife . Even before the latest accusations came out against Epstein, Trump has done his best to downplay the friendship . Here's a closer look at the two men's relationship through the years.SEE ALSO:  Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier charged with sex trafficking, reportedly bragged he was the one who introduced Donald and Melania Trump DON'T MISS:  Everything we know about Trump's connection to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was charged with sex trafficking Trump told New York Magazine in 2002 that he had known Epstein for 15 years, suggesting they met around 1987. Judge Who Denied Bail to Jeffrey Epstein Calls Him ‘Uncontrollable’ and a ‘Danger’

Judge Who Denied Bail to Jeffrey Epstein Calls Him ‘Uncontrollable’ and a ‘Danger’ The judge who denied Jeffrey Epstein bail on Thursday ruled that he is a danger to the community, in part because his “excessive attraction” to young girls “appears likely to be uncontrollable.”U.S. District Judge Richard Berman said the evidence offered by federal prosecutors that it was too risky to release the globe-trotting financier appeared “strong.”“The evidence includes testimony of victims, some of whom were minor girls when they were allegedly sexually abused by Mr. Epstein; other witnesses, including potential coconspirators; physical evidence, including passports reflecting extensive foreign travel; sexually suggestive photographs of nude underage girls; plea discussions; and police reports describing witness tampering and intimidation,” Berman wrote in a 33-page opinion.Epstein, 66, had been hoping for house arrest but got the news that he will be staying in jail until his sex-trafficking trial at a brief morning hearing in federal court in Manhattan.“I doubt that any bail package can overcome danger to the community,” Berman said at the hearing.Hours later, he filed his written ruling in which he said it seemed likely that Epstein, a registered sex offender, would strike again if he were let out of jail.“Mr. Epstein’s alleged excessive attraction to sexual conduct with or in the presence of minor girls—which is said to include his soliciting and receiving massages from young girls and young women perhaps as many as four times a day—appears likely to be uncontrollable,” Berman wrote.“It seems fair to say that Mr. Epstein’s future behavior will be consistent with past behavior, including the trove of ‘lewd photographs of young-looking women or girls,’ which were recently uncovered during the July 6-7, 2019, search of Mr. Epstein’s East 71st Street mansion,” he added.Berman also said Epstein’s $559 million fortune made him a flight risk.“The Defendant’s vast wealth and influential contacts have provided him with the means to pay individuals to assist him in unlawful endeavors, including potentially fleeing the jurisdiction,” the judge wrote. The decision is a victory for prosecutors who argued that Epstein was too rich and the charges he faces too serious to let him return to the Manhattan mansion where he allegedly molested dozens of underage girls. The proof they offered included a fake Austrian passport and dozens of small diamonds found in a safe, accusations of witness-tampering, and suspiciously timed payments to alleged accomplices. When Epstein offered to put up a $100 million bond, hire armed guards and a “live-in” trustee, the feds scoffed that he was trying to build his own private prison—a “gilded cage” from which he could easily take flight.Epstein, who is being held at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center, displayed no emotion as Berman issued his ruling from the bench. With the bail issue settled, Epstein’s lawyers will likely focus their attention on trying to get the New York indictment thrown out by arguing it violates a sweetheart plea deal he cut with the feds in Florida in 2007.He served just 13 months on two state prostitution charges back then, much of it on work release that he allegedly used for sexual hookups. After his release, he tried to fade into obscurity—a plan foiled by a Miami Herald investigation and ongoing litigation by his accusers.Jeffrey Epstein’s on the Hook Now, but I’ve Seen Why Upper East Side Criminals Always Seem to Get Away With ItThe Public Corruption unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan launched its own probe of the politically connected multimillionaire. And the FBI arrested Epstein on July 6 at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport as he returned from France. Two days later he pleaded not guilty to charges of sex-trafficking and conspiracy for allegedly paying girls for massages that morphed into sex acts, and then recruiting some of them to find other girls to abuse.Since then, attorneys representing his accusers said, more than a dozen other women have come forward with accounts of abuse. Authorities in New Mexico, where Epstein has a sprawling ranch, have spoken to at least two new accusers who say he preyed on them when they were minors in the mid-2000s.“At this point our plan is to share the results with the feds,” said Matt Baca, a spokesman for New Mexico Attorney General Hector Baldera. “We have been in contact with them.”The New York indictment details the allegations of just three victims between 2002 and 2005, but prosecutors have Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Inside Trump’s raucous Mar-a-Lago party with billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein

Inside Trump’s raucous Mar-a-Lago party with billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein Donald Trump was coming off a bruising few years: his casino and real estate business had teetered on the edge of collapse, awash in debt. His marriage to Ivana Trump had disintegrated, and his relationship with model Marla Maples had fallen apart. In November 1992, eager for a comeback, Mr Trump threw a raucous party with NFL cheerleaders at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and invited NBC to tape the event.Footage of that party, unearthed and aired by NBC News on Wednesday, shows Mr Trump grabbing dancing cheerleaders and socialising with financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested last week and charged with sex trafficking.Mr Trump has repeatedly said that he is “not a fan” of Epstein’s and that the two had a falling out about 15 years ago.[[gallery-0]] Epstein, who owns a home in Palm Beach near Mar-a-Lago, pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution.“I knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him,” the US president said of Epstein this month. “He was a fixture in Palm Beach.”In the video from the 1992 party, the two men appear chummy, chuckling as Mr Trump appears to point out women on the dance floor. At one point, Mr Trump can be seen whispering in Epstein’s ear, causing the financier to double over in laughter. The footage was taken for a feature on Mr Trump that aired on the NBC talk show A Closer Look that month. On the segment, host Faith Daniels described Mr Trump’s agreeing to come on the show after he kissed the news anchor on the lips in front of photographers at a charity dinner in New York while her husband’s back was turned.Mr Trump’s interactions with women at the Mar-a-Lago party – welcome or not – provides visual evidence of the kind of behaviour he would later brag about on a 2005 Access Hollywood recording that surfaced at the end of the presidential campaign: that he could grab and kiss women because he was a celebrity.Sixteen women have publicly accused Mr Trump of sexual misconduct over the past several decades, including a former magazine columnist who went public last month with her claim that Mr Trump assaulted her in a department store dressing room around 1995.He has denied all the allegations and said the women are lying. In the footage of the November 1992 party, Mr Trump can be seen putting his arm around the waist of one of the women, yanking her towards him and patting her on the backside as she laughs. The White House declined to comment. An attorney for the Trump Organisation did not respond to a request for comment. Martin Weinberg, a lawyer for Epstein, declined to comment. The party was part of about 36 hours of footage taken of Mr Trump for a half-hour piece about him that aired on A Closer Look in late November 1992, according to the then-NBC producer for the shoot, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect her privacy.During the wide-ranging interview, Mr Trump told Ms Daniels that he didn’t think he would ever run for president, saying his relationship with women was a likely obstacle.“I mean, I’m so controversial, I love beautiful women, I love going out with beautiful women, and I love women in general, and people would say, ‘Oh, that’s a horrible thing’,” Mr Trump told Ms Daniels, according to a transcript of the show that Ms Daniels provided to The Washington Post.People who attended the Mar-a-Lago party recalled that the cheerleaders were from the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills, which were playing that weekend in Miami.Mr Trump has long been interested in the NFL and, in 2014, made a failed bid to buy the Bills. The former NBC producer said the 1992 party was “odd” – strange enough that she recalled telling her husband about it.“Who says, ‘This is going to be good for my rehabilitation’, and then invites a bunch of NFL cheerleaders over?” she said. “It was classic Donald Trump.”One former Bills cheerleader who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect her privacy recalled that Mr Trump invited the cheerleaders to spend the night at Mar-a-Lago and that about 15 or 20 did so, sharing bedrooms all over the house.“By the end of the night, Donald Trump was throwing people in the pool, but I think it was all in good fun,” said the former cheerleader, who said she steered clear of the host.“It looks crazier in the video than it was.
