Libya water supply halted Tripoli over armed attack

Water supplies to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, have been halted in the wake of an armed attack on the main power plant in southern Tripoli, the management of the Great Man-Made River Project said in a statement Friday, reports Anadolu Agency. An armed group on Friday forced workers at the main electricity plant in Tripoli to cut electricity supplies to all of the wells in Tripoli, leading to a lack of running water to the capital and the cities of the central region, the statement said, without elaborating on the identity of the attackers. The group is demanding the resumption of power supply to southern areas in Libya – currently controlled by Khalifa Haftar-commanded forces, rivals to the UN-recognized Libyan […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

‘Israel bent further annexation’

The UN special rapporteur for the situation in Palestine on Friday raised a concern about the lack of human rights accountability in Palestine and said Israel eyed further territorial annexation, reports Anadolu Agency. Michael Lynk’s remarks came in Amman of Jordan following his week-long visit, where he gathered with the Palestinian and Israeli human rights organisations for he was denied entry to Palestine by the Israeli authorities. He said, adding Israel’s refusal of entry was contrary to Israel’s obligations as a UN member: The United Nations has stated on numerous occasions that the Israeli settlements are illegal, its annexation of East Jerusalem is unlawful, and its violations of the human rights of the Palestinians breach international covenants and treaties. Now […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Uyghur Saudi Arabia Russia among states backing China’s policy

Saudi Arabia, Russia, and 35 other states have written to the United Nations supporting China’s policies in its western region of Xinjiang, according to a copy of the letter seen by Reuters on Friday, in contrast to strong Western criticism. China has been accused of detaining a million Muslims and persecuting ethnic Uyghur in Xinjiang, and 22 ambassadors signed a letter to the UN Human Rights Council this week criticising its policies. But the letter supporting China commended what it called China’s remarkable achievements in the field of human rights. migrants brought Libya centre deadly strike

More migrants have been moved to a detention centre in Libya’s capital where an air strike killed more than 50 last week, despite a risk it could be hit again which led to survivors being evacuated, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said on Friday, reports Reuters. Around 95 migrants were moved to the Tajoura centre in Tripoli on Thursday, some rounded up in the local community and others transferred from another detention centre in the city, the aid group said. Earlier in the week migrants left at the centre after the July 3 bombing – some of whom were sleeping in the open for fear of another strike – were either released or evacuated, following appeals from the United Nations. Algerian protesters push reforms tries burn himself

A man sought unsuccessfully to set himself on fire on Friday as tens of thousands of Algerians rallied to push for reforms and the departure of the ruling elite, reports Reuters. For the 21st consecutive Friday, crowds gathered, now demanding more rapid change after they brought about the end of Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s two-decade rule in April. Protesters marched with banners reading: “Our protest movement will continue”, “We want democracy and freedom” and “Thieves, you have looted the country”. One man in Algiers took a match to his clothes, but other demonstrators intervened, dousing him with water, a Reuters photographer saw. The will of an enemy that apologises will break

will enemy that apologises will break

We have grown accustomed to the enemy’s threats to retaliate and its assertion of the concept of deterrence. We have monitored Israel’s behaviour for decades and found that it relies on its air force — its long arm — and its special forces, which work behind the lines constantly to prevent the establishment of various power bases that might pose a threat to its security and existence. By means of its weapons, the determination of its people and their faith and willingness to make sacrifices, this enemy recoils, hesitates and apologises. The statement made by the Israeli army spokesperson this week about the “misunderstanding” which led to a Hamas operative being shot dead in Gaza was, to all intents and […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Greenblatt boasts secret meetings with officials deal century

Jason Greenblatt, the United States’ (US) Middle East envoy for peace, has announced that he has held meetings with leaders and officials within the Palestinian Authority (PA) “in their personal capacity.” In an interview with the US-based Arabic news channel Al-Hurra today, Greenblatt revealed that the meetings have been conducted in secret due to recent disagreements and tenses in relations between the US and the PA. The strain in relations started primarily when US President Donald Trump announced his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December 2017. The incident was a direct move against the stance of PA and other Arab states who consider East Jerusalem to be the capital of the future Palestinian state. This infuriated the PA […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en
