Far from being impartial, Panorama was a partisan attack on Labour’s left

from being impartial Panorama partisan attack Labour’s left

Right from the opening, there were glaring signs that Wednesday night’s “Panorama” would be anything but the impartial public broadcasting that the BBC claims to champion. The hour-long special was supposed to prove that Labour under Jeremy Corbyn has become a hive of anti-Semitism. In reality, it only proved the dishonesty of these claims, which have dogged the party for four years now. I understand that, as I write on Friday, the Labour Party is about to lodge a formal complaint with the BBC. This could be the first step towards a complaint to Ofcom, the UK’s broadcasting regulator. Labour has accused Panorama of deceptively editing emails leaked by its ex-staffers in order to invert their meanings. They have called […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Orthodox Church challenge sale property Israel settlers

The Greek Orthodox Church will next week petition against a final ruling of Israel’s Supreme Court which approved the sale of church property in East Jerusalem’s Old City to pro-settlement group Ateret Cohanim. Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the petition will argue that the sale of the property was based on bribery and the church figures who signed the deal were corrupt, immediately fleeing the country after signing the deal. Last month the Supreme Court ruled that the church had failed to provide sufficient evidence that the deal was made fraudulently. Commenting on the sale of the property, spokesman for the Greek Orthodox Church, Issa Musleh, told AFP that the sale was only made possible by forged documents. Report Palestinians wounded Israel forces Gaza

At least 74 Palestinians were wounded in Israel’s crackdown on the 66th Friday of the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has said. According to the rights group, the wounded included 23 children, two women, two journalists and two paramedics. The Great March of Return began on 30 March 2018, calling for an end to Israel’s ongoing siege on Gaza and reinforcing the right of return. Since then, Israel has killed 306 protesters and wounded around 17,000 others. Israel military reporter: Gaza war ‘not far away’, will be deadliest yet Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Cuba should careful normalise Israel’s colonisation Palestine

In 1947, Cuba was one of the few countries opposing the UN Partition Plan, which laid the groundwork for Israel’s colonisation of Palestine. At the time, the Cuban envoy to the UN Dr Ernesto Dihigo spoke out against Zionist settler colonialism and, with clarity, pointed out the UN’s incompetence and refusal to implement its rhetoric regarding the free determination of people. Decades later, and at a time when Palestinians are risking the loss of what remains of their land, Cuba must rethink its strategy which runs the risk of normalising Israeli colonialism and human rights violations committed against the Palestinian population. Israeli media has reported that Doron Markel, chief scientist at the Jewish National Fund (JNF), was invited to an […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Rising prices caused Mexico storm Gulf geopolitical tensions

Oil prices increased yesterday as US oil producers in the Gulf of Mexico cut their production by more than half due to a tropical storm, while tensions continue to rise in the Middle East. US crude stocks have fallen for four weeks, while prices have been supported by oil companies’ production cutting in the Gulf of Mexico due to tropical storm “Barry”. Companies have stopped the production of more than 1 million barrels a day (bpd) – equivalent to 53 per cent of the region’s production – while the storm is heading towards the coast of US state Louisiana, where it could arrive today. The market also remains concerned about tensions between Iran and the West, which have seen a […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Israel preparing with Iran military wings next years

Israel’s Minister of Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi yesterday said that Israel is preparing for a “possible” military confrontation with Iran and its military wings in the next two years. Speaking to Israel Hayom, Hanegbi – who is also a member of Israel’s security cabinet – said “the possibility that there will be a military confrontation with Iran or its military arms is more likely than the possibility there will not be a war”. He reiterated that the issue is not related to “whether or not, but to the appropriate time”. The minister claimed that the war with Iran “has already moved from proxy war to direct war,” adding: “There will be a direct war between us [Israel] and Iran, direct […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Russia calls withdrawal foreign troops from Syria

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko yesterday stressed that any prospective political reconciliation in Syria should include the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country. In a press release, Grushko said that the Russian military is the only foreign force based in Syria by invitation, which is in keeping with international law, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported yesterday citing Russia Today (RT). This came after US news reports that France and Britain have agreed to send troops to replace US troops, which plan to leave Syria after US President Donald Trump in December announced he would withdraw his forces from the country. Since 2014, the US and its allies have been carrying out a military operation against Daesh in Syria and Iraq. […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Algerians army chief want civilian military government

Hundreds of thousands of Algerians yesterday took to the streets amid the continuous arrests of corruption officials and the election of opposition parliament speaker, Slimane Shenine. The demonstrators – who went out to protest for the 21st Friday in a row – demanded that the state be led by a civilian government, despite statements made by army Chief of Staff Ahmed Gaid Salah, who labelled the demand as nothing but “false slogans with flagrant aims and intentions”. The demonstrators also called for the overthrow of all symbolic figures associated with the regime of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in order to pave the way for a political solution to the crisis. This solution includes the holding of free and fair elections […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

NATO warns Turkey about Russia missile system

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) yesterday expressed its concern about the deployment of the advanced Russian air defence system, the S-400, to Turkey. An unnamed NATO official told AFP: “We are worried about the consequences of the Turkish decision to own the S-400,” noting that this defence system contradicts those used by the alliance, of which Turkey is a member. Turkey yesterday announced that it had received the first components for the S-400 system. They were flown to Murted air base near Turkish capital Ankara on a Russian cargo aircraft. The Kremlin confirmed that shipments had begun, but declined to say when the systems would be fully installed. “I will just say that everything is being done on time, […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en
