Turkish sailors seized pirates Nigerian coast

Ten Turkish sailors were taken hostage by armed pirates who attacked a Turkish-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Nigeria, the vessel’s owner said on Tuesday, adding that another eight sailors were left safely aboard, reports Reuters. Turkey’s foreign ministry said the sailors were seized on Saturday evening. After the pirates left the ship it was taken to Ghana’s Tema port, and Ghanaian and Nigerian authorities are working on returning the captured sailors, the ministry said. Shipping company Kadioglu Denizcilik said its ship, the Paksoy-1, was attacked in the Gulf of Guinea as it sailed from Cameroon to Ivory Coast without freight. “According to initial information, there were no injuries or casualties. Efforts for all our personnel to be safely […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Libyan woman walks again after treatment Turkey

A wheelchair-bound Libyan woman walked again, thanks to the treatment she received at the Medipol Mega University Hospital in Istanbul. Esma Amer, 40, was using wheelchair over past two and half years after she was injured in her leg in an armed attack in the conflict-ridden North African country. After 10 failed surgeries, the doctors in her country had recommended amputation of the injured leg that had also contracted an infection. “I was told to go to Turkey for recovery, doctors [in Libya] told me that they could not save my leg,” she told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday. Amer’s life was devastated in 2017. An armed attack killed her husband and child. She survived, but with multiple injuries. The worst […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Turkey Villagers return home years after ordeal

Haunted by the PKK terrorists nearly three decades ago, a village in eastern Turkey has now turned into a peaceful abode, reports Anadolu Agency. Due to frequent terrorist attacks, the residents of the Ulukaya village in eastern Mus province were forced to migrate to find safe havens in other areas. The final nail came when the village was set on fire by the PKK terrorists in 1993. Living in other Turkish cities all these years, residents always dreamed to return to their homes. Their dreams were realized by the Turkish forces, who battled against the PKK terror group, to clear the area from terrorists. Sings of return of a peaceful life in the village are visible. One can see villagers tilling […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Iran confirms arrest French Iranian scholar gives details

Iran confirmed on Tuesday it had detained French-Iranian scholar Fariba Adelkhah but declined to give any more details, a day after Paris demanded information on her case, reports Reuters. French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday he was worried by the arrest of the 60-year-old anthropologist, an incident that has complicated French efforts to defuse tensions in the region. “This person was detained recently … but due to the nature of the case, this is not the proper time to give any information about it,” Iranian judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said in a live broadcast on the judiciary’s website. “More transparent information will be provided as the case progresses,” Esmaili said. Adelkhah, a senior research fellow at Sciences Po university […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Turkey’s Erdogan says Russian 400s will fully deployed April 2020

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the Russian S-400 missile defence system, parts of which have been delivered to Turkey over the past four days, would be fully deployed in April 2020, reports Reuters. Turkey’s purchase of the Russian system has raised tensions with its NATO allies, particularly the United States, which has warned Turkey that it will respond with sanctions. Speaking at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on the third anniversary of 2016’s attempted coup, Erdogan said eight planes had already brought parts of the Russian system and more were coming, as he had repeatedly promised. Israeli minister accuses UK’s Corbyn hatred

An Israeli official close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn of Jew-hatred on Tuesday, remarks likely to fuel acrimony in and around the opposition party as it struggles with anti-Semitism probes, reports Reuters. A BBC Panorama exposes aired last week said Corbyn’s office had interfered in independent party discipline processes aimed at rooting out anti-Semitic conduct. Labour, the main opposition party in Conservative-led Britain, denied this. Netanyahu’s rightist government has largely reserved comment on the furore over Corbyn – a veteran and vocal pro-Palestinian campaigner – with aides citing reluctance to be perceived as meddling in Britain’s internal affairs. Hezbollah’s warnings should taken seriously should Iran’s

The recent warnings by Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah that Iran will target Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the event of a comprehensive military confrontation in the context of the deterrence that Iran is trying to impose in its face off with the US, coincide with the official position put forward by Tehran. That is based on reminding the US and those who stand with it that there will be an enormous cost to everyone if the war that neither the US nor Iran want actually breaks out. In previous years, the Hezbollah leader’s statements have gained credibility among opponents; Israel, for example, takes them seriously. Nasrallah and the Iranians are trying to influence the public debate taking place in […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Jordan appoints ambassador Qatar years after downgrading ties

Jordan appointed a new ambassador to Qatar on Tuesday, a step toward restoring normal relations two years after it withdrew its ambassador in solidarity with Gulf Arab allies who severed ties with Doha. Amman downgraded its diplomatic representation on June 2017, days after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain severed all ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism, which Doha denies, reports Reuters. Zeid al-Lawzi, a senior career diplomat and secretary-general of the foreign ministry, was named as the new envoy, a royal decree said. Qatar last summer extended a $500 million aid package to Jordan only days after its Gulf adversaries pledged $2.5 billion to help Jordan overcome an economic crisis after a wave of […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

UN’s 2030 agenda will fail Palestinians organisation always

The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which “seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom” is an ideal dissociated from the realities perpetuated by the international community. Far from promoting sustainable development, the political actors in this charade are deciding the trajectory of human rights violations. Indeed the international community has demarcated the difference between rhetoric and action, to the point that the sustainable development goals will, in due course, become no different from the humanitarian endeavours which the UN embarks upon to avoid tackling the impunity it has generated for the aggressors. In the case of Palestine, how is the two-state paradigm, promoted by the UN as the only “solution”, supposed to contribute to the sustainable development goals? […] Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en
