The Crown Season 3 Review

Náhled

media thumbnail Elizabeth II has had her share of problems this year: The Brexit crisis dragged her into a constitutional kerfuffle, and Harry and Meghan have been sulking in public. The Crown ’s season 3 won’t cheer her up — it’s brilliant but unflattering. The original cast has been replaced, with Claire Foy’s dewy, resolute young Queen giving way to Olivia Colman ’s helmet-haired, middle-aged one. RELATED: See the New Cast of The Crown Side-by-Side with the Real People They Play in the Netflix Hit The new Elizabeth, pinched by her tiresome, ceaseless responsibilities, never quite loses an expression of mute, wide-eyed dismay, like a goldfish that sees a cat outside its bowl. Colman plays her with an irreverent touch of comic impersonation — this could be Carol Burnett as a Windsor. The rest of the royal family festers along with her. Charles (Josh O’Connor), in love with Camilla soon-to-be Parker-Bowles (Emerald Fennell), tells her how awfully sad it is that he needs Mummy to die so he can become King. Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) has become a fabulously blowsy disgrace. Only Prince Philip (Outlander’s Tobias Menzies) has any innate dignity. RELATED: Queen and Princess Margaret’s Rivalry and Prince Charles ’ Struggle Teased in The Crown Trailer If The Crown were Succession, these people could find a sick joy in ruthless ambition. But only one head is destined to wear the crown — and, in a deflating moment, Elizabeth tacitly acknowledges she isn’t sure Charles is up to the job. Season 3 of The Crown hits Netflix on Nov. 17. media thumbnail While Terri , Bindi and Robert Irwin honor The Crocodile Hunter’s legacy every day, Nov. 15 marks Steve Irwin Day , the annual international event celebrating the life and legacy of the beloved Animal Planet star. “Dad was my hero and the greatest Wildlife Warrior,” Bindi, 21, tells PEOPLE. “It’s a blessing to continue his work with my amazing family. We hope to make him proud every day. We are celebrating with lots of khaki and animals! Khaki’s not just a color, it’s an attitude!” Adds Robert, 15: “Steve Irwin Day is one of the most special days of the year for our family. Dad was the ultimate Wildlife Warrior and so ahead of his time — discussing climate change, habitat destruction and so many other environmental issues before they were as widely discussed as they are now.” “He changed the world and so many lives across the globe,” says Robert. “For my family and me, we miss him every day, but are proud to keep his mission alive. It’s wonderful to see so many people showing their support for his legacy.” RELATED: Bindi Irwin Will Honor Late Dad Steve Irwin at Her Wedding with Special Candle Lighting Ceremony The legendary wildlife expert was working on the documentary series Ocean’s Deadliest when he was attacked by a stingray off the coast of northern Australia and  died  on Sept. 4, 2006. He was 44. Since then, his family has been passionate about carrying on his environmental mission. Bindi and Robert were also among the 2019 Time Next 100 list, which honors the rising stars and up-and-comers who are shaping their industries and the future. “What an honor to be included,” says Bindi. “Robert and I are committed to wildlife conservation and we want to share a message of hope and positivity as we remind everyone that no matter who you are, or where you’re from, you can stand up and make a difference. We all need a little more love and light in our lives and we want to encourage the next generation to get involved.” Says Robert: “We are so passionate about spreading a message of conservation and positivity to hopefully inspire others to make a difference. And hearing the amazing words from some of the other honorees gives me so much hope for the future!” Crikey! It’s the Irwins airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET on Animal Planet. Jill Zarin on the Possibility of Getting Married Again: 'I Don’t Know If I'd Wear White'

Náhled

media thumbnail Jill Zarin’s not engaged to boyfriend Gary Brody just yet — but wedding bells are definitely on the couple’s mind. “We’ll get married at the right time. We’re not engaged yet,” Zarin, 55, tells PEOPLE exclusively at BravoCon in New York City on Friday. “Gary’s just the best thing that ever happened to me,” the former Real Housewives of New York City star, who lost her longtime love, husband Bobby Zarin to cancer in January 2018 , adds. “He’s so amazing, he really is. I met him at a time when I needed him. People come into your time at the right space, but you have to be open to it. You have to be open to it, and I was open to it. I really got lucky.” But when the time comes for Zarin to say “I do,” she insists on making sure it is a “simple” bash. “I’m actually not a big wedding person,” she admits. “If I do, it’ll be something simple. It’s nice the first time, the third time it’s like, enough already?” As for a wedding dress, Zarin doesn’t think she would go the traditional route, after being married twice before, to Zarin in 2000 and to her first husband, Steven Shapiro, who she married in 1987 and is the father of her daughter, Ally Shapiro. “I don’t know if I’d wear white again. I wore off-white to Bobby’s wedding, my second. I don’t know if I’d do it again. probably something simple — definitely not a big ballgown or anything.” She also feels like throwing a lavish, extravagant wedding is “such a waste of money,” which is why she’d rather keep her next one intimate. “You can have a small wedding but to spend a million dollars on a big wedding, to me, is just conspicuous consumption for no reason. I’d rather just take the money,” Zarin says. She adds: “You have 200 people come. If you do the math, you spend 15 seconds with each person, you’re lucky. Most of them you won’t even talk to. And if you look, by the time dessert comes, half of them are gone. They can’t wait to leave. It’s like they’re doing you a favor showing up for your wedding. Who needs that?” Zarin’s ultimate bridal advice? “Do it small for the pictures,” she says. — with reporting by Dave Quinn Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

James Holzhauer Wins Jeopardy!'s Tournament of Champions, Takes Home $250,000 Grand Prize

Náhled

media thumbnail He’s won it again! Jeopardy! contestant James Holzhauer won the Alex Trebek -hosted game show’s Tournament of Champions and took home the $250,000 grand prize on Friday. Holzhauer, 35, went up against Emma Boettcher and Francois Barcomb to win the tournament, with Boettcher coming in second (earning $100,000) and Barcomb taking third (earning $50,000). The Las Vegas sports gambler’s victory over Boettcher, who is a librarian from Chicago, comes five months after she beat Holzhauer and ended his 32-game Jeopardy! winning streak in June. “I’ve said all along that Emma is an all-time great player, and I’m proud it took that level of competitor to defeat me,” Holzhauer said in a statement. RELATED: Alex Trebek Holds Back Tears After Jeopardy! Contestant Gives a Heartfelt and Costly Answer “Now the world sees that I wasn’t just making excuses. Francois certainly looked as dominant as either of us in his first two games, so I knew the finals would be a fight to the finish,” continued Holzhauer. “But the whole point of the TOC is to play the best of the best, and Emma and Francois certainly proved that they belonged in the final three.” Holzhauer’s regular season and tournament winnings now total $2,712,216, coming third behind two fellow players in top earnings: Ken Jennings ($3,370,700) and Brad Rutter, whose $4,688,436 makes him the highest-winning game show contestant of all time. Following his elimination over the summer, Holzhauer opened up to PEOPLE about how he and his wife Melissa, 37, were going to use his winnings to give back. “We knew we wanted to do a big philanthropic push,” said Melissa of how to handle the sudden fame — and yes, money — and parlay it into something good. RELATED: Celebrities Who Have Been Jeopardy! Clues — and Their Hilarious Reactions The couple asked around about local charities, and soon learned of Project 150, a foundation that helps homeless teenagers in Nevada attend and finish high school. “Las Vegas has to be one of the most inhospitable places to not have a place to sleep at night,” said Melissa of the area’s climate. “I went to the website and watched their videos, it broke my heart. I knew I wanted us to really get involved to help them out.” For his part, Holzhauer, who has also donated money to pancreatic research in the name of Jeopardy! host Trebek, who is currently fighting pancreatic cancer, said he’s also been beyond impressed by the teens that Project 150 is helping. “These are kids who have every excuse to just give up on school and life, but Project 150 is making sure they don’t do that. They are working really hard. Some of them are the breadwinners of their families,” he said. “It’s incredible to read their stories and see that despite everything, they’re doing whatever they can to get another chance at life.” RELATED: Jeopardy!‘s James Holzhauer Jokes Alex Trebek ‘Has a Potty Mouth’ When Cameras Aren’t Rolling Holzhauer added, “They believe is their chance at breaking the cycle of poverty, and they’re really bringing themselves up by their bootstraps. They do talk about all the struggles they go through, and yet they still make it to school.” As for what’s to come for the trivia whiz, Holzhauer said he was mulling over what he wants to do. “There are lots of doors opening for me,” he said. But for now, he’s content to continue raising awareness, donating and fundraising for Project 150. “It’s nice to be able to have a voice,” he said. “Especially for people who need it.” Jeopardy! airs weekdays (check local listings). Bethenny Frankel Finds Buyer for $4 Million Soho Loft After Almost 2 Years on the Market

Náhled

media thumbnail It’s official: Bethenny Frankel has found a buyer for her Soho loft, which was listed for $3.995 million. The former Real Housewives of New York star , 49, originally listed the Mercer Street  two-bedroom condo for $5 million in February 2017 with Million Dollar Listing New York star Fredrik Eklund (with whom she also starred on the real estate series Bethenny & Fredrik). She later changed realtors, handing the listing over to Leonard Steinberg of Compass , who slashed that price by $1.25 million in October. PEOPLE can now confirm that the home has found a buyer and is in contract, though the final sale price has not been revealed. “When I bought the apartment, I was in a situation where I really needed to buy something,” Frankel told PEOPLE when she first put the home on the market. She had bought it in October 2014 for $4.2 million, in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with ex-husband Jason Hoppy , which stretched out over four years, partly due to their extended fight over their Tribeca apartment which she had purchased just before they split. “It was a time when I needed to get some stability for Bryn and myself and I needed a home for us,” she said, referencing her now 9-year-old daughter. “Our Soho apartment is an amazing place, but I’d like a bigger place now for both of us.” RELATED: Bethenny Frankel Still ‘Can’t Believe’ She Lives in Her New 4,000-Square-Foot Manhattan Loft Renovating the 2,392-square-foot home was a welcome diversion for RHONY alum during the emotional rollercoaster that followed her divorce.  “I have been doing really well in real estate and I’ve got the bug,” said Frankel. “When buying, I think, ‘Would I like to live here?’ and also, ‘Is it also a good investment?’ It’s a really unique place not a cookie cutter place and I did a great renovation to make it even nicer — and more valuable.” The apartment features a sunken living room with fourteen-foot ceilings, triple-paned arched windows, a wood burning fireplace, a balcony and a landscaped atrium. The open kitchen features new appliances from Subzero and Miele, as well as a five-burner range by Wolf and ample wine storage. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet, custom marble dual sinks, and a soaking tub and steam shower. The second bedroom features walnut flooring, and built-in speakers. “The living room is very dramatic with large windows,” Frankel said. “But now that I’ve renovated it, I want another great opportunity.” RELATED VIDEO: Bethenny Frankel Travels to Florida and the Bahamas to Help with Hurricane Dorian Relief “I never like to buy anything new and perfect,” she noted. “I adopt these properties, and give them some love. I never bought the apartment with the intention of living there permanently. I added value and now I’ll find another place to do the same thing to.” Frankel and Bryn have since moved into a 4,000-square-foot Soho loft located right next to Frankel’s Skinnygirl offices. The reality star and entrepreneur announced in August that she’d be leaving RHONY  in order to “explore my next chapter.” Speaking at  Yahoo Finance’s All Markets Summit in October, she said, “It wasn’t about money. If I went back, it was about money, if that makes any sense. When I joined The Housewives, everyone told me not to do it and I went with my gut to do it. And when I thought about leaving, everyone told me not to leave. And I went with my gut to leave.” Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Kathryn Dennis on Reaching Custody Agreement with Ex Thomas Ravenel: 'A Weight Has Been Lifted'

Náhled

media thumbnail Kathryn Dennis is feeling optimistic about the future. The Southern Charm star opened up to PEOPLE about the end of her contentious custody battle with ex Thomas Ravenel on Friday at BravoCon, saying she feels like a “huge weight has been lifted.” “I feel good that we actually are moving forward,” she said. “I feel like we had been at a stand still and my whole life has been stunted from that. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted.” Dennis previously confirmed that she and Ravenel had reached a custody agreement, saying on Twitter that the former couple had “resolved all matters related to our children.” “Just want to let my fans hear from me officially that Thomas and I have resolved all matters related to our children,” she wrote Tuesday. “I believe that this joint custody arrangement is in our children’s best interests. Happy to move forward. Thank y’all for all of your patience, support & love.” Dennis and Ravenel share daughter Kensington Calhoun, 5, and son Saint, 3. Ravenel, 57, and Dennis, 28, have agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of Kensington and Saint, with Ravenel having “primary legal custody,” his lawyer told PEOPLE earlier this month. RELATED:  Kathryn Dennis Celebrates Son’s Birthday After Reaching Custody Agreement with Thomas Ravenel “The parties’ custody agreement awarded Mr. Ravenel primary legal custody of the minor children,” his lawyer said in a statement. “The parties currently share physical custody of the children on a 36%/64% split, with Ms. Dennis having the children five out of fourteen overnights and Mr. Ravenel having the children nine out of fourteen overnights. This time-sharing arrangement is scheduled to change in the Summer of 2020, whereby the parties will then share physical custody of the children on a 50/50 week-on week-off basis. Ms. Dennis is required to employ a nanny during the majority of her time with the children and Mr. Ravenel has agreed to pay the nanny’s salary in lieu of child support.” According to court  documents obtained  by  All About the Tea , Dennis and Ravenel have created a schedule through summer 2020 and have also created a holiday and special occasions agreement, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring/Easter break and Mother’s Day/Father’s Day. They also agreed to not have “any person with whom they are romantically involved (excluding a spouse) stay overnight with them while the children are present,” the documents read. Ravenel and Dennis both agreed not to “make any disparaging remarks about the other parent to the minor children, in the presence of the minor children, or within earshot of the minor children, or allow or encourage others to do the same,” according to the documents, or “post any negative remarks about the other on social media.” RELATED:  Kathryn Dennis Celebrates Son’s Birthday After Reaching Custody Agreement with Thomas Ravenel In the agreement, the parents have agreed to “attend co-parenting/parallel parenting sessions with Dr. Sandy Cassell for a minimum of 10 sessions, the cost of which shall be divided equally between the parties.” Their agreement comes three years after Dennis lost full custody of her children in 2016 and  entered rehab  after testing positive for marijuana. Ravenel, who no longer stars on Southern Charm, was awarded full custody at the time. In October 2018, she  filed documents  in Charleston seeking to obtain primary custody of the two children after Ravenel was arrested and  charged with assault and battery  in the second degree.  Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en
