Netherlands: Relatives of MH17 victims react to JIT’s prosecution of four suspects

Náhled

Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe Relatives of downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 considered charges laid against three Russians and a Ukrainian by the Joint Investigation Team in Nieuwegein on Wednesday a major breakthrough in the prosecution. "It's the first step of course but I'm glad they are starting it. For me it's the first step on full clarity," said a relative while another added more people will be prosecuted later. Some however expressed doubts regarding the possible motive behind Russia's alleged involvement in the downing and the evidence. "No motives, I don't know if they can't give us the motives now or that they just don't know," said a relative who added the connection to Russia remained unclear. Russia has denied all accusations that it was involved in the crash, which resulted in the deaths of all 298 people on board, and has stated that while the Buk missile used to down the Boeing 777 was manufactured in Moscow in 1986, it was subsequently delivered to the Ukrainian Army and never returned. In a written statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (MFA) dismissed the JIT's charges on alleged involvement of Russian servicemen in the MH17 crash and said the investigation was based on unfounded accusations and not facts. Moscow also voiced concern over JIT's bias, based solely on what it claimed was forged evidence by Ukraine. Russia pledged its own resources to find the truth about the MH17 downing. The three Russian military officers accused with involvement were named as Oleg Pulatov, Igor Girkin, and Sergey Dubinskiy, with the Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko also being named, and international arrest warrants have been issued for all four men. Girkin was serving as Minister of Defence of the Donetsk People's Republic at the time with the other three men all working under him. The Defence Ministry of the Donetsk People's Republic has denied the allegations that it was involved in the MH17 crash. A prospective trial date of March 2020 was set by investigators. Russia does not form part of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which is made up of police and criminal justice authorities from the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine. Iran: Tehran is taking 'minimum measure' on nuclear deal - Rouhani

Náhled

Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe Tehran's current nuclear activities is the least of what Iran can do after the signatories of the 2015 JCPOA failed to hold up their end of the bargain, according to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani speaking in a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday. "What we are doing, despite some countries' propaganda against it, is the minimum measure Iran can take," said Rouhani who added the parties’ lack of commitment has damaged the spirit of the 2015 landmark nuclear deal. "We have started some actions during this 60-day period and we have been implementing them," stated the Iranian President after Tehran gave 60 days to the remaining deal signatories on May 8 to come up with new terms to salvage the deal after US’s unilateral departure from the nuclear deal. "If they do, all the actions of our first 60-day period and probably the second 60-day period will reset," reassured Rouhani. Rouhani once again dismissed claims by the US about Iran being involved in the recent attacks carried on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. "They started a political game in the world. However, no one accepted this game except the US and the UK and some of their followers," said Rouhani. **RESTRICTIONS: NO Access Israel Media/Persian Language TV Stations Outside Iran/Strictly No Access BBC Persian/VOA Persian/Manoto-1 TV/Iran International** Video ID: 20190619-031 Video on Demand: http://www.ruptly.tv Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ruptly Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

Netherlands: Dutch prosecutor dismisses Ukrainian radar data as faulty in MH17 downing

Náhled

Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Nieuwegein has decided to partially dismiss radar data from Ukrainian stations at the time of downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine in July 2014 due to their "problems" at the time of the incident. Chief Prosecutor from Dutch National Prosecutor's Office Fred Westerbeke made the remarks in an interview in Nieuwegein on Wednesday. "We do have some radar data but there were some problems with radar stations there… so these radar data are not relevant anymore,” said Westerbeke after prosecutors charged three Russians and a Ukrainian national with murder for their alleged role in Mh17 downing. Westerbeke urged Russia to provide more comprehensive information on how the "Buk-telar from the 53rd Antiaircraft Missile Brigade from the Russian Federation" was employed in the downing of the aircraft on July 17. "Everybody in the 53rd knows how it was and nobody is telling us anything and this is a shame and the Russian Federation should tell us what happened." In a written statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (MFA) dismissed JIT’s statement on alleged involvement of Russian servicemen in MH17 crash and said the investigation was based on ungrounded accusations and not facts. Moscow also voiced concern over JIT’s one-sided bias, fed solely by what it claimed was forged evidence by Ukraine. Russia pledged its own resources in truth-finding in the MH17 downing. Netherlands: Prosecutors explain some findings of MH17 investigation

Náhled

Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe Prosecutors in Nieuwegein explained some of the rationale behind the charges made against four suspects for the July 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine, during a press conference on Wednesday. "What, based on the findings of the investigation, we can disclose is the following: suspects Girkin, Dubinskiy, Pulatov and Kharchenko were active in the armed conflict in the Donetsk province in July 2014," said Chief Prosecutor Fred Westerbeke. "Their come and go in this period was to gain ground at the expense of the Ukrainian state and its armed forces. During this battles, anti-aircraft defence was used." Westerbeke emphasised that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would not further elaborate on all the available evidence outside of court. The charges stem from a Dutch-led international investigation which has concluded that the plane was shot down by a Russian-made missile, reportedly on the basis of communications intercepts provided by Ukrainian intelligence services. International arrest warrants have been issued for the three accused Russian military officers, Oleg Pulatov, Igor Girkin, and Sergey Dubinskiy, as well as for Ukrainian national Leonid Kharchenko. Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe German Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Rainier Breul, said that Berlin supports "a quick and complete clarification of the cause of death" of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, while speaking at a regular press conference in Berlin on Wednesday. "I can say first that Mohammed Morsi, as the first freely elected President of Egypt, that we are distraught over the death of Morsi and say our condolences to his family and his relatives," Breul stated. Morsi died on Monday after fainting in a Cairo court while facing trial on espionage charges, the 67-year old was serving a 20-year sentence for a conviction stemming from the killing of protesters during protests in 2012. He was also serving a life sentence on espionage charges. A medical report reportedly showed no signs of recent injuries on his body but Turkish President, and Morsi ally, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has questioned the circumstances of Morsi's demise. While attending a prayer service for Morsi in Istanbul on Tuesday, Erdogan commented that "I personally do not believe that it is a normal death." Breul also commented on the ongoing investigations into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi saying "We still expect from Saudi Arabia a complete and credible solving. That especially applies to the cooperation of Saudi Arabia with the Turkish authorities.'' "An important development is also the criminal trial against the eleven defendants, which continues in Riyadh . We expect full transparency and a constitutional procedure from the Saudi judiciary," he added. Another government spokesperson, Ulrike Demmer, also shared Berlin's view that the US is not interested in a war with Iran, saying that "there are multiple statements and clues whereas President Trump wants to avoid a military altercation.'' Demmer's statement came in response to a question from a journalist if the German government would support a US attack against Iran.
