Shameless Star Jeremy Allen White Says Emmy Rossum's Character Is 'Never Going to Be Replaced'

media thumbnail Shameless fans may be mourning the exit of Emmy Rossum ‘s character, but there’s no replacing Fiona Gallagher. “She’s never going to be replaced; we’re just gonna have to figure out how to work it without her,” Rossum’s costar Jeremy Allen White — he plays Lip Gallagher on the show — told Variety at the Emmys FYC red carpet for Shameless. “As sad as I am to lose Emmy as an acting partner, it’s kind of exciting because it’s gonna be a different show; it’ll mix things up,” said White, 28. “It’ll be pretty crazy to see how Lip copes without her and how the Gallaghers survive without their matriarch.” In August, after nine seasons on the Showtime series, Rossum, 32, announced her departure in a lengthy Facebook post. RELATED: Emmy Rossum Opens Up About Her Decision to Leave Shameless: ‘It’s Both Scary and Wonderful’ “The opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift. There are few characters — female or otherwise — as layered and dynamic. She is a mother lion, fierce, flawed and sexually liberated. She is injured, vulnerable, but will never give up. She is living in an economic depression, but refuses to be depressed. She is resourceful. She is loyal. She is brave. I knew it the second I read the pilot script, this was different, this was special,” she wrote about playing the scrappy Chicago native. “I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she concluded. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.” Following her announcement, her on-screen father William H. Macy (Frank Gallagher) praised the actress for making the difficult decision to leave. “We’ve been expecting it,” Macy said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly . “I tell you, when you get to season 9 and you think of to keep going, it’s daunting.” “It’s hard not to think of: ‘What would my life be post-Shameless?’ And part of it is very frightening and part of it is very exciting,” added Macy, 68. “She’s young and I think she’s made the right choice. She’s got another show that she’s an executive producer on, so she’s going right into something and she wants to branch out. Plus, she just got married,” Macy said in reference to Emmy’s husband, Sam Esmail . “I wish her well. I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do next.” RELATED: Inside Emmy Rossum’s Public Fight for Equal Pay on Shameless And months later, Macy still stands behind Rossum’s choice to exit the John Wells and Paul Abbott-created show. “I was completely behind her decisions, but I’m going to miss her,” Macy told Variety. “Emmy has serious acting chops. You can’t buy ’em, you can’t learn ’em, you’ve got to have ’em. It’s going to be brand new territory without her; who knows where it’s going to go?” Macy also hinted that Rossum could make a return. “I think Emmy will come back and make a guest appearance before this thing sets sail. She better, otherwise I’m gonna grab her by the ear and bring her back,” he joked. Her departure came two years after she made headlines when she refused to sign on for the Showtime drama’s eighth season unless she was offered more than Macy to make up for the seven years she was paid significantly less. Days later, the Golden Globe-nominated actress and Warner Bros. came to terms on a new contract . The season 9 finale of Shameless (Rossum’s final episode) airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime. Gage Edward Allegedly Threatens to Hire Lawyer if Ex Jeff Lewis Continues Down 'Destructive Path'

media thumbnail Jeff Lewis says his ex partner Gage Edward is threatening to hire a lawyer as their split grows more contentious. During Thursday’s episode of Lewis’s SiriusXM radio show, Jeff Lewis Live, the Flipping Out star said that Edward, from whom he separated in January and officially split last month, told him he was considering seeking legal council if Lewis did not change his ways. “Yesterday we had a very enlightening heart to heart about how this could go, and I did not like how this could go,” Lewis said on his show. “It was very eye-opening to me. It was very much of a wake-up call.” Recalling a recent heated conversation with his ex, Lewis claims that Edward told him, “If you continue down this destructive path, if you continue coming at me, you’re going to force me to hire an attorney. You’re going to force my hand.” RELATED: Jeff Lewis Says He ‘Broke Up’ With Gage Edward Two Years Ago, When Their Child Was 3 Months Old Edward did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment. In the past, Lewis expressed that he, too, toyed with the idea of hiring a lawyer while he and Edward were still together, and told Access Hollywood Live he consulted an attorney when he was considering proposing to Edward . “I just found out — my attorney said that is now eligible for palimony because it’s been seven-and-a-half years,” Lewis said during the interview. “I’m on the hook anyway, I might as well get married.” Although the pair never got around to tying the knot, during an episode of Flipping Out from 2017, Lewis admitted that he had already planned his divorce. “I think I’ll be coming back with Monroe as a single dad ,” he told his co-star Jenni Pulos, with whom he ended his personal and professional relationship last year. “I don’t know anybody that gets along 100 percent of the time. But I’ve planned my divorce like hundreds of times in my head. I mean, I go real specific, like I’m gonna live here and he’s gonna live here, I’m gonna see the baby here and he’s gonna see the baby here,” Lewis confessed in the episode. “I mean, I work it all out in my head.” The Bravo star went on to explain that he imagined Edward also thought about splitting from him “often.” If their split did escalate to a legal battle, it wouldn’t be the former couple’s first encounter with threats of taking a personal issue to court. Currently, the exes are facing an ongoing lawsuit filed by their surrogate, Alexandra Trent, who carried their two-year-old daughter Monroe. Trent is suing the couple as well as Bravo and the Flipping Out’s production company, Authentic Entertainment, claiming that the show filmed her delivery without permission and that Edward and Lewis made “disgusting” remarks about her . She is seeking damages for unlawful recording, invasion of privacy and fraud. Lewis has strongly refuted these claims, but the legal action is ongoing and  will likely go to trial . WATCH THIS: Flipping Out’s Jenni Pulos Says Her Friendship with Jeff Lewis Is ‘Over’: ‘I Have to Move On’ On Thursday, the Bravo star said that his the conversation surrounding Edward’s threat to hire a lawyer made him weary because he saw his future looking “very similar” to fellow Bravo reality star Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy’s custody battle over their 8-year-old daughter Bryn, in which the Real Housewives of New York cast member has alleged she feared for her safety while sharing an apartment with Hoppy after they had separated — and even alleged i Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en

The Real-Life 'Black Klansman' On Why His Story Still Resonates Today

Watch Video "It's just a very gratifying moment for all of this to be happening. It's a very surprising moment, because I never imagined anything like this happening when I began this ride, writing this book. I just wanted to tell the story, and now look at it." From 1978 to 1979 , Ron Stallworth — the first black detective in Colorado Springs — was a card-carrying member of the KKK. He detailed his investigation of the hate group in his memoir, "Black Klansman." The story formed the basis for Spike Lee's film of the same name, which recently won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay. "It's a very surreal moment to be in — to be on the Oscars stage. ... I'm very proud of the fact that this story was the story that put Spike Lee over the hump and got him his first Oscar."Stallworth's investigation took place four decades ago, but the problems it touches on — from systemic racism and the rise of hate groups to the strained relationships between black communities and law enforcement — are problems that are still very relevant today."Anybody who thinks that the KKK would not be active 40 years later are living in a fantasy world — very naive. This group's been around since the late 1800s. It's a domestic terrorist group. They're not going anywhere. ...It's American homegrown terrorists — red, white and blue. And they may fall in the shadows occasionally and go underground occasionally, and basically not be prominent in the news. But they're always around. Always around."The Southern Poverty Law Center's  most recent report on U.S. hate groups  shows that while the number of KKK chapters fell from 130 to 51 in the last two years, there  is a record-high number of hate groups  overall."KKK, Neo-Nazi, Alt-Right, Skinhead. They're all part of the same fabric. They all have the same basic beliefs. ...When you talk about evolution, the alt-right is doing something that the KKK doesn't necessarily do, and that's the alt-right doesn't sport white hoods and white sheets.""The alt-right people are more clean cut, well-dressed, very intelligent, very well educated. In other words, they pattern themselves after David Duke. And that's what has evolved is the image that they're portrayed. And they're trying to become. They're not trying — they are becoming more politically engaged."Beyond his investigation of the KKK, at the heart of Stallworth's story is the relationship between black communities and police. Years after his time at the Colorado Springs Police Department — where Stallworth himself faced prejudice — the former detective  speaks  frequently on the intersection of race and law enforcement. "Black cops are part of the community that they serve. They're also part of their ethnic community. I was a black man in America wearing a blue uniform and a badge and a gun enforcing the laws of the state of Colorado and upholding the Constitution of the United States. That doesn't mean that I was not aware of everything going on around me where the black community was concerned and where race relations were concerned. Because I, as a member of the race, was mixed into it as well." Stallworth says that black cops often face criticism from people within their own community."BlacKkKlansman" itself was criticized by  director Boots Riley  for portraying law enforcement as heroes, but Stallworth —  who has voiced  support for Black Lives Matter — argues the work of black police shouldn't be dismissed."If you have a systemic evil in an organization, like racism, one of the best ways to fight it is to become part of the organization — fight it from within. And that's what I was doing back in the day. That's where a lot of people are doing these days. So, people who accuse us of not being part of our community, not understanding what's going on, they couldn't be more wrong."  Číst dále >>> Přeložit do en
