At least 50 irregular migrants lost their lives on their way to Europe through Turkey in 2019, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency. Most of the deaths took place in the Turkish-Iranian border, where 32 migrants froze to death while trying to cross to Van province in eastern Turkey from Iran. Another two migrants froze to death in the western Edirne province. In four separate incidents at the Aegean Sea, a total of 16 irregular migrants drowned while trying to cross to Greek islands. Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that Turkey and Iraq have signed a mutually beneficial military cooperation and trust agreement after day-long meetings in the capital Ankara, Anadolu reports. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki on Wednesday submitted a request to The Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) for legal action against the US, Anadolu reports. Some 305 Palestinian protesters have been killed while taking part in the Great March of return protests since they launched on 30 March 2018, the Palestinian Ministry of Health revealed today. In the 410 days since the protests launched, 305 Palestinians, including 59 children and ten women, have been killed by Israeli forces, while 17,335 others suffered various injuries. Of the 17,335 Palestinians injured, about 1,685 suffered injuries to the head and neck, in addition to 122 to the lower limbs and 14 in the upper limbs. The US State Department has issued a security alert and ordered staff to evacuate Iraq amid escalating tensions with neighbouring Iran. The alert posted on the US embassy in Iraq today read: “The U.S. State Department has ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. Government employees from Iraq, both at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the U.S. Consulate in Erbil.  Normal visa services at both posts will be temporarily suspended.
