Ancient Rome was a very different world from ours, so it does have any lessons to teach us? Historian Mary Beard sayd, while we shouldn't model our behavior on any ancient society, Rome's treatment of immigrants is illustrative. Beard's newest book, SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome; http://www.indiebound.org/book/9780871404237

Transcript - I think it’s always very hard to learn lessons from Rome, direct lessons. I don’t think that certainly there’s much where we can say oh look, the Romans did that and we should do it too. There are I have to say quite a lot of things that the Romans did extremely badly. I wouldn’t fancy being a woman in the Roman Empire. I certainly wouldn’t have fancied being a slave. So we can see them as offering a rather anti-model of how you should treat women and the conquered. And I think that Rome makes us think differently about some of the problems that we have and which they faced too. One of those most obviously and particularly relevant at the beginning of the 21st century is ideas of migration and citizenship. Currently refugees, asylum seekers, economic migrants – one of the biggest crises that certainly the continent of Europe but also the world more widely faces.

I think for me very instructive to look back to Rome and to see in Rome a world where there was no such thing as an illegal migrant. That would have been absolutely incomprehensible to a Roman where there was free movement of people. Where people were granted citizenship by the Romans very freely. There was no such thing as a citizenship test. You didn’t have to salute the flag. You didn’t have to sing the national anthem. You didn’t have to pay a fee. Rome was an incorporating society. And indeed when Rome thought about its very origin, you know, who founded Rome. And they told elaborate fantastic mythical stories like the story of Romulus and Remus. And who founded Rome after being discovered and suckled by the wolf on the banks of the Tiber. Or a different story but equally popular how the Roman race was founded by Aeneus who had been a Trojan hero in the great war between the Greeks and the Trojans at Troy. Aeneus had fled from Troy to find a new city in Italy when his own had been defeated. If you look at those kind of stories you discover that Romans are imagining their origins in terms of being a home for refugees like Aeneus. And very interestingly when Romulus actually found the city that was on the site of Rome itself and he looks around and he thinks help, I haven’t got any citizens. You know except for a couple of lads and nothing much more.

What does he do? He puts up a notice and sends message around saying Rome is a place of asylum. Any runaway, any criminal, any asylum seeker could come to Rome and be a Roman citizen. Now it’s extraordinary and perhaps rather more like some American founding myths that saw British founding myths. It’s quite extraordinary to see for me a culture which traces its origin back to migrants and refugees and asylum seekers. Now I think it’s very important to say we can’t just take that as a model of what to do ourselves. It would be slightly crazy to say oh, because Rome was an open city and welcomed asylum seekers so should we. We’re living in a different world.

But I think what’s important is simply the realization that there is another culture, back there, that had a very, very different view from the view that we now tend to hold. And it helps you put that view, your own view, in perspective. It helps you to see that view from the outside. The Romans would look at us and they’d look at what’s happening on the beaches of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, you know, their world. And they would be amazed and horrified just as we are horrified about some of the things that they did.

    TOP 10 Christmas Spooky Facts

TOP 10 Fascinating and Spooky Facts About Christmas :

    10. The Nativity Scene :

Everyone knows who Saint Francis is, the famed saint who had an apparent miraculous control over animals. What most people don’t know is that Saint Francis invented the nativity set in the 13th century!

    9. Christmas Crackers :

I was recently surprised to discover that Americans don’t generally have Christmas crackers at Christmas. In the UK and many commonwealth countries, Christmas crackers are placed on the table and everyone pairs up to “pull” one. Crackers were invented by Tom Smith (a seller of candy), in 1847.

    8. Xmas Word :

That one small word causes anger amongst many people; many Christians consider it to be disrespectful to replace Christ’s name with an ‘x’. However, Xmas is almost as old as the feast, the ‘x’ is actually the Greek letter c,h which is the first letter of Christ’s name.

    7. Christmas Gifts :

Gift giving, Christmas drinks, Christmas Cards and many other Christmas traditions are come to us via the Ancient Romans who exchanged all of those things on New Year’s Day. This was initially shunned by the Church but old habits die hard and it eventually transferred to Christmas.

    6. Candy Canes :

In the late 1800s, a candy maker in Indiana invented Candy Cane. The color white symbolizes the purity and sinless nature of Jesus. the three small stripes symbolize the pain inflicted upon Jesus before His death on the cross. the bold stripe represent the blood Jesus shed for mankind.

    5. Christmas Tree :

Most people have heard the tale of how Martin Luther, gave the world the Christmas tree. It is not true. The first association of trees with Christmas comes from Saint Boniface in the 7th century AD, when he chopped down a tree sacred to Thor to prove to the local villagers that the Norse gods were not legitimate.

    4. Misconceptions :

As often happens with very ancient traditions, many myths have sprung up surrounding Christmas. The most popular is that the entire nativity did not happen and is based on the pagan Mithras character (a sun god). Many aspects of Mithra’s life are given as proof but it is only in fairly recent times that this notion has been promoted.

    3. Banned! :

In England, Christmas was forbidden by Act of Parliament in 1644. a lot of groups condemned the celebration of Christmas, considering it a Catholic invention. Celebration was outlawed in Boston from 1659 to 1681. however it was not until the mid-19th century that celebrating Christmas became fashionable in the Boston region.

    2. Santa Claus :

Santa Claus is actually based on the early Church Bishop Saint Nicholas. He was born during the third century (around 270 AD), in the village of Patara in Turkey, and was known for secretly giving gifts of money to the poor. The modern image of him as a jolly man in red most likely comes from the 1823 poem “A visit from St Nicholas” also known as “The Night before Christmas”.

    1. The Date :

In the early Church, Christmas was not celebrated as a major feast. the theologians in Alexandria church decided that Christ’s birth was the 20th of May. By the 380s, the Church in Rome was attempting to unite the various regions in using December 25th as the universal feast day, and eventually that is the day that stuck.

I have worked with carpenters and physicians . Of course the physicians knew more about medicine and the carpenters knew more about framing a house. However, in both camps there were people who could take what they know and creatively apply it in application to the present problems. Pooling resources and running multiple scenarios in their minds until they reached a logical conclusion. These people were also the most humble, polite, and nicest guys/girls I have ever met.

So why are you getting upset when people disagree with it, you cock?
no that is not what the sub is completely about haha like i said before you already have a negative perception of what it is so to convince you otherwise is pointless.

And no I'm not defining your stance in society based on your usage of that sub

You're part of a general problem in society. Too bored and lazy to contribute

    hmm ok

That sub behaves in a certain way, I criticize that behavior and you're telling me I can't say you are not like that because I don't know anything about you. Something doesn't add up right in your head.

yes i disagree , you have an idea of how people act on a reddit sub, and from a few post from someone you can tell the people on the sub are "too lazy and bored to contribute to society". I'm just saying that sounds pretty outrageous but I guess I'm a bit slow in the head because I dont think sweeping statements/generalisations about people acting silly on Reddit are accurate lol
The northeast seems pretty proficient at it.
You won, you can go home now.
around 35 and it was my back.
When I was on one of those tours going through Italy, I did not handle my own luggage. It just shows up in your hotel room, either before or after you get there yourself. I think it's just easier for a few, set people to handle 50 passenger's worth of luggage than have a free-for-all at departure time.
My 9-year-old daughter wanted to dress as SS HQ. I told her there was no way that was going to happen. Hell, I wouldn't let her dress like that if she was 14.
I disagree with the insult, but do condemn that behavior. I like to honk at them to try shame them (unless they look too scary). One young woman pointed in front of her car as if to say, "I can't go forward!"

    Officially, it is "jhiro"

Two questions: First, twat phoneme are you trying to represent with "jh"? While I have some Greek (although frankly, not much), "yeeros" is pretty damn close. I don't here any "jh" in these two samples by native speakers.

Second, the Greek is γύρος, so whether you say "jhiro" (what) or "yeero", you're missing that "s" from the ς. I think "gyros" as a singular probably throws off English speakers, though, just as they use "cannoli" and "panini" as singular nouns.

BTW, I know a lot of Greeks and a fair number of them do not cotton to the gyros as it is served in the US. They deride the typical American gyros as being döner.

    which always made me chuckle.

    Why?
    Hockey.

    Where Homosexuality Is the Norm

    6.6.2018, 2:02
    Author: Big Think
    Visited: 5
    Duration: 00:05:20
In New Guinea and the Amazon, it is common and culturally acceptable for men to have sex with men.

Question: Where is homosexuality completely accepted?
Ted Fischer: How love is manifested varies greatly from culture to culture. And we, I think, often think of our way as the only way, or the best way, or the natural way, and yet it's not. And this is really the power of anthropology is showing us we naturally think the way we do things is best very often. And looking around the world and saying, "Oh, among the Sambia in New Guinea they form homosexual bonds between men and also have husbands and wives." That's a different way of configuring families. A different way of configuring love. And it opens up the range of possibility for us to reconsider the way in which we do things. And it doesn't mean we have to adopt somebody else's pattern, but just knowing that we construct this world in which we live, and if we want to we can change it.
There are few notable cases around the world. Among Plains Indians before contact and even shortly after contact, there was a recognized; sometimes it's called a third gender. So men who would feel like they are truly women, and they would dress as women, and the they would take male husbands, and very much a pattern of romantic love, falling in love, marrying, not having children, of course but still living as husband and wife. So that's one pattern that we find in a few cultures around the world. More often, interestingly, of men feeling that they should be women. A few cases that we find of women feeling that they should be men and dressing as men, but that seems to be more transgressive for cultures in some way. So that's one pattern.
Question: Are women sexually shunned in any cultures?
Ted Fischer: Another pattern that we find, especially, in New Guinea and in the Amazon region are men forming very strong bonds between themselves, and sometimes this is sexual as well as platonic. And in these cultures a very deep suspicion of women. Women is seen polluting, as dangerous, as someone who would suck a man's life blood out of them, and so in these cultures there's still heterosexual bonds, and heterosexual relationships and that's the norm. And yet it's seen as dangerous. And men feel more comfortable in the men's house where only men can go. And for example, among the Sambia of New Guinea that involves -- it involves sexual relations. So young boys are taught about sex by having oral sex with older men. And very -- and sometimes -- and then they're expected then to go through this progression of having sexual relations with older men, then having sexual relationships with younger men, and then becoming heterosexual, choosing a wife and living with that wife and having children. Very often it's hard for these men to make that transition to heterosexuality because women are scary, and they don't want to be too polluted by women. So that's interesting for this notion that heterosexually is natural. It probably is. I mean, most of the Sambia don't want to continue with these homosexual relations for the rest of their lives. Some of them do and resist pairing up with a woman. But even for the ones who want to be with women, it's a hard transition because they've learned a different kind of sex.
But those are the exceptions around the world. In most cultures around the world heterosexuality is the norm, and not only the norm, but the, you know, the very clearly the norm that other sorts of love are looked down upon. But this changes over time. I mean, there were -- we can talk about ancient Rome. We could also talk about times in the United States or in western European history where homosexuality wasn't accepted but it also was, it was kind of a screaming secret. There were, you know, spinsters who lived together, or men who liked men, and you wouldn't talk about it in polite company, but it was one of those things we know it goes on and we just won't talk about it. So we've seen homosexuality even in cultures such as our own that have and even in the very recent past had strong prohibitions against homosexual love. Evolutionarily we would expect, and then if there is an evolutionary basis for it, we would expect that it would have evolved to promote male/female bonding. It just makes evolutionary sense. But it doesn't mean, I mean, the beauty of humans is we've evolved these huge brains so that we're not slaves to our biology any more. We're not automatons. We, again, we create our forms of love. We make love. If we can use that as a phrase. And so we can make love in different sorts of ways.

[Newsa] Not a Gamer? Here's What the Assassin's Creed Film Trailer Means

    13.5.2016, 7:00
    Author: C Realtime

    Duration: 00:01:52
The first trailer for December’s Assassin’s Creed dropped last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live . Based on Ubisoft’s long running videogame franchise, the film stars Michael Fassbender as a former death row inmate forced to step into the shoes of an ancestor of his who lived during the Spanish Inquisition. This all probably makes a lot of sense to you if you’ve played any one of the eleventeen Assassin’s Creed videogames published by Ubisoft over the last decade. If not, you’re likely left with a lot of questions as to what exactly is going on here. Fortunately, we have sunk hundreds of hours into various Assassin’s Creed games and feel qualified to answer said queries. What in the blue hell is all this nonsense? We understand your feelings, but please be more specific. OK. Who are the Assassins, and what is their Creed? Was that the thing Fassbender said at the end of the trailer? “We work in the dark to serve the light?” Maybe, actually, although it’s different in the game. The Assassins are an ancient, secret order founded during the Crusades. They’re based loosely on the real Hashishin , a small Islamic sect that used targeted assassinations to terrorize the Crusaders and their other enemies. Historically, the Assassins were eradicated by the Mongol Empire in the 1200s. In the Creed-verse, the Assassins lived on as a secret society of warriors locked in eternal struggle with their enemies, the Templars. Would that be related to the Knights Templar? The same. In this universe, the Templars and the Assassins are both ancient, mystical societies vying for control of the world. The Templars stand for order, control, and basically fascism. The Assassins stand for freedom and self-determination, they don’t want to control the world so much as stop the Templars from doing so. Even with all the murder (and there’s a lot of murder), they’re generally considered the good guys. In the videogames, the Templar v. Assassins struggle just so happens to turn out to have been the secret basis for just about every important historical event. It’s a conspiracy theorist’s dreamland. And the creed? You said you were going to talk about the creed. We respect your creed passion. In the games, it’s, “Nothing is true, everything is permitted.” There’s a fan wiki entry all about it if you’re so inclined. What it means in practicality is: You have the go-ahead to stab world leaders and look cool while doing it. Michael Fassbender is using a thing called the Animus. What is he doing? Fancy VR, basically. The Animus technology is premised on the idea that humans have a “genetic memory” that amounts to fully-realized incredibly specific re-creations of everything all of your ancestors ever did, which you can replay in your brain. This may come as a surprise to you if you can’t remember where you put your car keys. In the games, you use it to take on the role of an Assassin in an exotic locale in history, your player character being a child of a long line of famous and influential warriors. The only trick to the Animus is that you have to live through the entire memory, acting it out, and jumping over all the buildings and such without dying, so you can get to the crucial moment in which your ancestor witnesses some secret that you want to know about in the present—the whereabouts of some hidden MacGuffin, for example. So why did they need Fassbender specifically? After 500 years, the average person will have literally millions of descendants. They must have consulted with Dan Brown on the math. It’s even less likely that the last remaining descendant of Jesus was Audrey Tautou. What a coincidence; I was just going to ask about the French. Marion Cotillard is in this movie working for a company called Abstergo. Is she evil? Well, the Animus was developed by Abstergo Industries, whose off-kilter triangle symbol was all over the trailer. Abstergo is just the Templars, now with a contemporary corporate makeover. In the games, Abstergo and the Assassins are both looking for Pieces of Eden, powerful technological remnants of a lost, extremely advanced society that created the human race as slaves. (All of humankind’s most ancient myths—the Greek gods, Adam and Eve—are, in the game’s lore, referring back to the time when humans and the first civilization lived together.) Of course, if the movie is going to follow the storyline of the games, Cotillard’s character will reveal herself to be a double agent, an Assassin under deep cover, who will help Fassbender’s character escape. Or not. Her evilness is thus still an open question. Was Kanye West in the games? No. I guess this is starting to make a weird kind of sense. But why all the jumping? That seems dangerous! And were those wrist knives I saw on Fassy’s hands? You learn two primary skills in Assassin School: Stabbing and parkour. The wrist knives are hidden blades, spring-loaded weapons...

  • Daniel Barenboim gets Wolf-Prize - Uproar at his acceptance speech at Knesset

In his acceptance speech Daniel Barenboim cited parts of the THE DECLARATION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL from the 14th of May 1948 to remember the spirit and the fundament for establishing the state of israel. The reactions in the Knesset and after that speech in press and media shows that there are a lot of people in society, in politics, culture and economy who forgot the beginning and the idea for the state of Israel. DANIEL BARENBOIM Daniel Barenboim KBE (born 15 November 1942) is an Argentinian-Israeli pianist and conductor. He has conducted several important European and American symphony orchestras. Currently he is general music director of the Berlin State Opera and the Staatskapelle Berlin, and principal guest conductor of La Scala in Milan. He is also known for his work with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a Sevilla-based orchestra of young Arab and Israeli musicians, and as an outspoken critic of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Barenboim has received numerous awards and prizes, including Britain's Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, France's L?gion d'honneur both as a Commander and Grand Officier, the German Grosses Bundesverdienstkreuz and, together with the Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said, Spain's Prince of Asturias Concord Award. He has won seven Grammy awards for his work and discography and is regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries. Daniel Barenboim was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to parents of a Russian Jewish descent. He started piano lessons at the age of five with his mother, continuing to study with his father, who remained his only teacher. On August 19, 1950, at the age of seven, he gave his first formal concert in his hometown, Buenos Aires. In 1952, Barenboim moved to Israel with his family. Two years later, in the summer of 1954, his parents took him to Salzburg to take part in Igor Markevitch's conducting classes. During that summer he also met and played for Wilhelm Furtwaengler, who has remained a central musical influence and ideal for Barenboim.[2] Furtwaengler called the young Barenboim a "phenomenon" and invited him to perform the Beethoven First Piano Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic, but Barenboim's father considered it too soon after the second world war for a child of Jewish parents to be performing in Berlin.[3] In 1955 Barenboim studied harmony and composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.[1] In June 1967 Barenboim married British cellist Jacqueline du Pr?, who had converted to Judaism. The ceremony took place at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, a few days after it was captured by the Israeli troups during the Six Day War. The marriage lasted until du Pr?'s death from multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1987. Du Pr? retired from music in 1973, after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In the early 1980s, Barenboim began a relationship with the Russian pianist Elena Bashkirova, with whom he has two sons born in Paris prior to du Pr?'s death: David Arthur, born 1983, and Michael, born 1985. Barenboim tried to keep his relationship with Bashkirova hidden from du Pr? and believes he succeeded. He and Bashkirova married in 1988. Their son David is a manager-writer for the German hip-hop band Level 8, and Michael is a classical violinist. Barenboim holds citizenship of Argentina and Israel, as well as honorary citizenship of Spain and Palestine, and lives in Berlin. Political views Daniel Barenboim leads a rehearsal of the West-East Divan in Sevilla, Spain, 2005. Rehearsal of the West-East Divan under the lead of Daniel Barenboim, 2005. Barenboim, a supporter of Palestinian rights, is an outspoken critic of Israel's right wing governments and the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. In an interview with British music critic Norman Lebrecht in 2003, Barenboim accused Israel of behaving in a manner which was, "morally abhorrent and strategically wrong", and, "putting in danger the very existence of the state of Israel." However, in 1967 at the start of the Six Day War, Barenboim and du Pr? performed for the Israeli troops on the front lines, as well as during the Yom Kippur war in 1973. During the Gulf War, he and an orchestra performed in Israel in gas masks. West-Eastern Divan In 1999, Barenboim and Palestinian-American intellectual Edward Said jointly founded the West-Eastern Divan orchestra. It is an initiative to bring together, every summer, a group of young classical musicians from Israel, the Palestinian territories and Arab countries to promote mutual reflection and understanding. Barenboim and Said were recipients of the 2002 Prince of Asturias Awards for their work in "improving understanding between nations." Together they wrote the book Parallels and Paradoxes, based on a series of public discussions held at New York's Carnegie Hall. In September 2005, presenting the book written with Said, Barenboim refused to be interviewed by uniformed Israel Defense Forces Radio reporter Dafna Arad, considering the wearing of the uniform insensitive for the occasion. In response, Israeli Education Minister Limor Livnat of the Likud party called him "a real Jew hater" and "a real anti-Semite." Wolf Prize In May 2004, Barenboim was awarded the Wolf Prize at a ceremony at the Israeli Knesset. Education Minister Livnat held up the nomination until Barenboim apologized for his performance of Wagner in Israel. Barenboim called Livnat's demand "politically motivated", adding "I don't see what I need to apologize about. If I ever hurt a person privately or in public, I am sorry, because I have no intention of hurting people...", which was good enough for Livnat, but the ceremony was boycotted by Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, also a member of the Likud party. In his acceptance speech, Barenboim took the opportunity to express his opinions on the political situation, referring to the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948: "I am asking today with deep sorrow: Can we, despite all our achievements, ignore the intolerable gap between what the Declaration of Independence promised and what was fulfilled, the gap between the idea and the realities of Israel? Does the condition of occupation and domination over another people fit the Declaration of Independence? Is there any sense in the independence of one at the *** of the fundamental rights of the other? Can the Jewish people whose history is a record of continued suffering and relentless persecution, allow themselves to be indifferent to the rights and suffering of a neighboring people? Can the State of Israel allow itself an unrealistic dream of an ideological end to the conflict instead of pursuing a pragmatic, humanitarian one based on social justice?" Israel's President Moshe Katsav and Education Minister Livnat criticized Barenboim for his speech. Livnat accused him of attacking the state of Israel, to which Barenboim replied that he had not done so, but that he instead had merely cited the text of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. In March 2007, Barenboim said: "The whole subject of Wagner in Israel has been politicized and is a symptom of a malaise that goes very deep in Israeli society...". Performing in the West Bank and Gaza Strip Barenboim has performed several times in the West Bank, in 1999 at Bir Zeit University and several times in Ramallah. In December 2007, Barenboim and 20 musicians from England, the United States, France and Germany, and one Palestinian were scheduled to play a baroque music concert in Gaza. Although they had received authorization from Israeli authorities, the Palestinian was stopped at the Israel-Gaza border and told that he needed individual permission to enter. The group waited seven hours at the border, and then canceled the concert in solidarity. Barenboim commented: "A baroque music concert in a Roman Catholic church in Gaza - as we all know - has nothing to do with security and would bring so much joy to people who live there in great difficulty." In January 2008, after performing in Ramallah, Barenboim accepted honorary Palestinian citizenship, becoming the first Jewish Israeli citizen to be offered the status. Barenboim said he hoped it would serve as a public gesture of peace.[49] Some Israelis criticized Barenboim's decision to accept Palestinian citizenship. The parliamentary faction chairman of the Shas party demanded that Barenboim be stripped of his Israeli citizenship, but the Interior Minister told the media that "the matter is not even up for discussion." In January 2009, Barenboim cancelled two concerts of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Qatar and Cairo "due to the escalating violence in Gaza and the resulting concerns for the musicians? safety." In May 2011, Barenboim conducted the "Orchestra for Gaza" composed of volunteers from the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Staatskapelle, the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris ? at al-Mathaf Cultural House. The concert, held in Gaza City was co-ordinated in secret with the United Nations. The orchestra flew from Berlin to Vienna and from there to El Arish on a plane chartered by Barenboim, entering the Gaza Strip at the Egyptian Rafah Border Crossing. The musicians were escorted by a convoy of United Nations vehicles.[52] The concert, the first performance by an international classical ensemble in the strip, was attended by an invited audience of several hundred schoolchildren and NGO workers, who greeted Barenboim with applause.[53] The orchestra played Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Symphony No. 40, also familiar to an Arab audience as basis of one of the songs of the famous Arab singer Fairuz. In his speech Barenboim said: "Everyone has to understand that the Palestinian cause is a just cause therefore it can be only given justice if it is achieved without violence. Violence can only weaken the righteousness of the Palestinian cause". The prize is awarded in Israel by the Wolf Foundation, founded by Dr. Ricardo Wolf, a German-born inventor and former Cuban ambassador to Israel. It is awarded in six fields: Agriculture, Chemistry, Mathematics, Medicine, Physics, and an Arts prize that rotates between architecture, music, painting and sculpture. Each prize consists of a diploma and US$100,000. The prize is described by the Foundation as being "awarded annually", but is not in fact awarded every year: only six prizes were awarded between 2000 and 2009 in most fields, and only four in Physics. The Wolf Prizes in physics and chemistry are often considered the most prestigious awards in those fields after the Nobel Prize[1][2][3]. The prize in physics has gained a reputation for identifying future winners of the Nobel Prize ? from the 26 prizes awarded between 1978 and 2010, fourteen winners have gone on to win the Nobel Prize, five of those in the following year. In medicine, the prize is probably the third most prestigious, after the Nobel Prize and the Lasker Award. Until the establishment of the Abel Prize, the Wolf Prize was probably the closest equivalent of a "Nobel Prize in Mathematics", since the more prestigious Fields Medal was only awarded every four years to mathematicians under forty years old. The Prize in Agriculture has likewise been equated to a "Nobel Prize in Agriculture".[4] For past Wolf Prize laureates, see the separate lists for Agriculture, Chemistry, Mathematics, Medicine, Physics and Arts. Source: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Wolf_Prize THE DECLARATION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL ERETZ-ISRAEL [(Hebrew) - the Land of Israel, Palestine] was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and political identity was shaped. Here they first attained to statehood, created cultural values of national and universal significance and gave to the world the eternal Book of Books. After being forcibly exiled from their land, the people kept faith with it throughout their Dispersion and never ceased to pray and hope for their return to it and for the restoration in it of their political freedom. Impelled by this historic and traditional attachment, Jews strove in every successive generation to re-establish themselves in their ancient homeland. In recent decades they returned in their masses. Pioneers, ma'pilim [(Hebrew) - immigrants coming to Eretz-Israel in defiance of restrictive legislation] and defenders, they made deserts bloom, revived the Hebrew language, built villages and towns, and created a thriving community controlling its own economy and culture, loving peace but knowing how to defend itself, bringing the blessings of progress to all the country's inhabitants, and aspiring towards independent nationhood. In the year 5657 (1897), at the summons of the spiritual father of the Jewish State, Theodore Herzl, the First Zionist Congress convened and proclaimed the right of the Jewish people to national rebirth in its own country. This right was recognized in the Balfour Declaration of the 2nd November, 1917, and re-affirmed in the Mandate of the League of Nations which, in particular, gave international sanction to the historic connection between the Jewish people and Eretz-Israel and to the right of the Jewish people to rebuild its National Home. The catastrophe which recently befell the Jewish people - the massacre of millions of Jews in Europe - was another clear demonstration of the urgency of solving the problem of its homelessness by re-establishing in Eretz-Israel the Jewish State, which would open the gates of the homeland wide to every Jew and confer upon the Jewish people the status of a fully privileged member of the comity of nations. Survivors of the Nazi holocaust in Europe, as well as Jews from other parts of the world, continued to migrate to Eretz-Israel, undaunted by difficulties, restrictions and dangers, and never ceased to assert their right to a life of dignity, freedom and honest toil in their national homeland. In the Second World War, the Jewish community of this country contributed its full share to the struggle of the freedom- and peace-loving nations against the forces of Nazi wickedness and, by the blood of its soldiers and its war effort, gained the right to be reckoned among the peoples who founded the United Nations. On the 29th November, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish State in Eretz-Israel; the General Assembly required the inhabitants of Eretz-Israel to take such steps as were necessary on their part for the implementation of that resolution. This recognition by the United Nations of the right of the Jewish people to establish their State is irrevocable. This right is the natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate, like all other nations, in their own sovereign State. ACCORDINGLY WE, MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLE'S COUNCIL, REPRESENTATIVES OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF ERETZ-ISRAEL AND OF THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT, ARE HERE ASSEMBLED ON THE DAY OF THE TERMINATION OF THE BRITISH MANDATE OVER ERETZ-ISRAEL AND, BY VIRTUE OF OUR NATURAL AND HISTORIC RIGHT AND ON THE STRENGTH OF THE RESOLUTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY, *** DECLARE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE IN ERETZ-ISRAEL, TO BE KNOWN AS THE STATE OF ISRAEL. WE DECLARE that, with effect from the moment of the termination of the Mandate being tonight, the eve of Sabbath, the 6th Iyar, 5708 (15th May, 1948), until the establishment of the elected, regular authorities of the State in accordance with the Constitution which shall be adopted by the Elected Constituent Assembly not later than the 1st October 1948, the People's Council shall act as a Provisional Council of State, and its executive organ, the People's Administration, shall be the Provisional Government of the Jewish State, to be called "Israel". THE STATE OF ISRAEL will be open for Jewish immigration and for the Ingathering of the Exiles; it will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or ***; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. THE STATE OF ISRAEL is prepared to cooperate with the agencies and representatives of the United Nations in implementing the resolution of the General Assembly of the 29th November, 1947, and will take steps to bring about the economic union of the whole of Eretz-Israel. WE APPEAL to the United Nations to assist the Jewish people in the building-up of its State and to receive the State of Israel into the comity of nations. WE APPEAL - in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months - to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions. WE EXTEND our hand to all neighbouring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighbourliness, and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people settled in its own land. The State of Israel is prepared to do its share in a common effort for the advancement of the entire Middle East. WE APPEAL to the Jewish people throughout the Diaspora to rally round the Jews of Eretz-Israel in the tasks of immigration and upbuilding and to stand by them in the great struggle for the realization of the age-old dream - the redemption of Israel. PLACING OUR TRUST IN THE "ROCK OF ISRAEL", WE AFFIX OUR SIGNATURES TO THIS PROCLAMATION AT THIS SESSION OF THE PROVISIONAL COUNCIL OF STATE, ON THE SOIL OF THE HOMELAND, IN THE CITY OF TEL-AVIV, ON THIS SABBATH EVE, THE 5TH DAY OF IYAR, 5708 (14TH MAY,1948). Humorous, surprising and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street. What does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? Why did ancient Egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? What dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful? Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers. https://www.amazon.com/12-Rules-Life-Antidote-Chaos/dp/0345816021

Bugs Bunny - Little Red Riding Rabbit

A teen-age bobby-soxer is strolling through the forest singing this song in a loud, obnoxious voice. "The five o'clock whistle's on the blink. The whistle won't blow, and wha'd ya think? My poppa's still in the factory, 'cause he don't know what time it happens to be."Out of one side of the basket she is carrying, Bugs emerges, chewing a carrot. "Ah, whacha got in the basket, gorgeous?" "I got a little bunny rabbit I'm taking to my grandma." "Hm. Not a bad pair o' stems for a rabbit." "Yeah, and he's got a cute face, too. See?" Red reaches in and grabs Bugs by the scruff of the neck, pulling him out to show. She continues walking, humming her song. A wolf is watching her and sneaking between the trees. He uproots a sign that reads, "Shortcut to Grandma's House," and changes its direction. Red takes the wrong path. The wolf goes up to Grandma's house and finds a note on the door. "Red- Working swing shift a Lockheed. Love Grandma. P.S. Leave rabbit under door." The wolf tears down the note, goes inside, puts on a nightgown and cap, and pulls back the covers on the bed. There are four other wolves in the bed in nighties, looking surprised. "Come on, come on. This is my racket!" The wolves grumble as they leave. Our wolf gets into the bed and lies down, but the pillow starts jumping all over the place. He pulls it aside and finds a tiny wolf underneath. The little wolf snickers and leaves quietly. Red knocks on the door. "Come in!" the wolf says in a deep voice, then remembers his disguise and repeats, in a sweeter voice, "Come in, Red." "Hey, Grandma, uh, oh yeah, what big eyes you got." "Yeah, yeah, big eyes. Gimme the rabbit." "Uh, hey, grandma! That's an awfully big nose for you...ta have!" "Yeah, yeah, sure kid, big nose, thanks, bye now." The wolf send Red on her way and tries to grab Bugs. A chase begins up and down a flight of stairs, and in and out of three doors. After a couple of minutes of opening the wrong door, the wolf takes one door off its hinges, puts his body in its place, and takes the door knob in his hand. Bugs opens what he thinks is the door, but as soon as he slams it, he realizes it's the wolf. He knocks on the wolf's forehead. "Anybody home?" Red bursts in. "Hey, Grandma! What big ears ya got!" The wolf starts talking French to Red, wooing her, then yelling at her to scram. He picks her up by the back of the collar and the seat of the pants and escorts her out the door. Bugs picks up the wolf the same way and throws them both out. The wolf comes back in. "Why you..." "Why you..." "Hey now..." "Hey now..." "Cut that out or..." "Cut that out or..." "Hey, wise guy!" "Hey, wise guy!" "Oh, yeah?" "Oh, yeah?" "Yeah!" "Yeah!" Bugs leads the wolf into a series of nonsense words, and starts him singing a catchy song. "Fibbledeedish!" "Fibbledeedish!" "Put on your old gray bonnet with the blue ribbons on it....through the fields of cotton we'll be...." As the wolf gets into the rhythm of the song, Bugs holds up a screw ball sign. Red bursts in again. "Hey, Grandma! Those are awfully sharp teeth for you, ta have!" The wolf boots her out the door, then turns around to happily return to their song. "Put on your old gray bonnet with the blue..." The wolf searches for Bugs, who's helping him by whistling as if calling a dog, and pointing to hiding places. Finally, Bugs points beneath the sink, and when the wolf opens the cabinet door, Bugs is in there! Bugs gets under the wolf's nightgown. We see Bugs's silhouette as the pass in front of a fire. Bugs uses tongs to grab a hot piece of coal, backs off, and burns the wolf with it. As the wolf jumps into the air, Bugs puts a shovel full of the red hot coals underneath him. The wolf lands with one leg on each side of the coal, furniture suspending him about two feet over the heat. Bugs piles an anvil, chairs, lamps, barbells, and everything he can find into the wolf's arms. He's just about to put a feather on top of the whole pile when Red bursts back in. "Hey, Grandma!" she yells, irritating Bugs to no end. "I’ll do it," he tells us, "but I’ll probably hate myself in the morning." He climbs down the ladder, offscreen. The pile of objects begins moving. Bugs has rescued the wolf and put Red in his place above the fire. Bugs and the wolf share a carrot.

Copyright © 2014. H.W. Longfellow said that "Music is the universal language of mankind.", so we hope that everyone, regardless of their culture or ethnicity will hear our cry for Peace. Honestly, life is so short and full of problems, challenges and tragedies, that we naively think that people could at least stop killing, hurting, offending each other. Why to wait for aliens, Apocalypses, epidemics, old age or natural disasters to show us that actually we prefer to live, to live in peace and to look for Happiness and not Fighting. May be it looks good in movies, but what about hospitals or broken hearts? H.C.Andersen said that “Where words fail, music speaks.”, but for those who still listen to the words we want to beg: we have lost our loved ones. Don't go to that hell! Let's live and let live! Let's be and be different! As long as the others don't harm you directly, why not let them be as they are, annoying, stupid and pathetic? We R having wars our whole history, is there are less evil or wrong people? So let's try another option: peace, let's learn how to resolve conflicts and disagreements in a peaceful way. Of course, before that we need to find another jobs for our millions of soldiers, how about paintball sport or something? F.Delius said that "Music is an outburst of the soul." When we wrote this music, we imagined as many doves as possible, flying in every direction, bringing peace to every place and person that needs it. At least metaphorically. We don't believe that peace is sort of unreal utopia, just look who we were in a past, and who we became, few more steps and we actually will start to respect human beings and not just talk about it. If peace is unrealistic, then why so many leaders, teachers, saints, wise and simply smart people were convinced that it's the only way and one day it will become true...How about tomorrow? Or at least next year? If we listen to them, if we follow them, if we agree, then...there's no choice but to feel compassion and love, if we all brothers, then....yes, sometimes brothers kill each other, but they kill a brother and not an evil monster, inferior, primitive alien. Lets count the years we thought how to get money, power, pleasures and seconds we felt that we should live somehow differently. In more friendly, tolerant, nice way, to see human beings and not employees, savages, idiots, gangsters, etc. We are not saying there are no gangsters or bad people, but we know that through love and compassion each gangster can be at least nice guy.At least let's try! Thank You very much!!! Messengers of Compassion; Doves of Peace and others.

In this world we live in, who can avoid hearing the terrible stories of suspected death and murders in the gulag labour camps of the Soviet Union? Who can avoid the stories of the millions who starved to death and the millions of oppositionists executed in the Soviet Union during Stalin's time? In the capitalist world these stories are repeated over and over again in books, newspapers, on the radio and television, and in films, and the mythical numbers of millions of victims of socialism have increased by leaps and bounds in the last 50 years. But where in fact do these stories, and these figures, come from? Who is behind all this? And another question: what truth is there in these stories? And what information is lying in the archives of the Soviet Union, formerly secret but opened up to historical research by Gorbachev in 1989? The authors of the myths always said that all their tales of millions having died in Stalin's Soviet Union would be confirmed the day the archives were opened up. Is that what happened? Were they confirmed in fact? The following article shows us where these stories of millions of deaths through hunger and in labour camps in Stalin's Soviet Union originated and who is behind them. The present author, after studying the reports of the research which has been done in the archives of the Soviet Union, is able to provide information in the form of concrete data about the real number of prisoners, the years they spent in prison and the real number of those who died and of those who were condemned to death in Stalin's Soviet Union. The truth is quite different from the myth.

http://www.northstarcompass.org/nsc9912/lies.htm From Hitler to Hearst, from Conquest to Solzhenitsyn The history of the millions of people who were allegedly incarcerated and died in the labour camps of the Soviet Union and as a result of starvation during Stalin's time.

Do Secret Societies Devoutly Worship Satan_- Part 7- Know the Truth Series (youtubemp4.to)

Do Secret Societies Devoutly Worship Satan? Know the truth that in 1925 his Eminence Cardinal Caro y Rodriguez Archbishop of Santiago Chile, published a book entitled, The Mystery of Freemasonry Unveiled, to expose how the Illuminati, the Satanists, and the Luciferians had imposed a secret society upon a secret society. He produces a great deal of documentary evidence to prove that not even 32nd and 33rd degree Masons know what goes on in the Lodges of the Grand Orient and Pike’s New and Reformed Palladian Rite. Pike selected Lemmi to succeed Mazzini as Director of the World Revolutionary Movement. Lemmi was a rabid and confirmed Satanist. But after he had been selected he was initiated into the Luciferian ideology. So, do secret societies devoutly worship Satan? It would appear to be. https://www.youtube.com/c/MindfulThoughts Know the truth that the High Priests of the Luciferian Creed on this earth introduced the worship of Satan in the lower degrees of both Grand Orient Lodges and the councils of the Palladian Rite and then initiated selected individuals to the FULL SECRET that Lucifer is God the equal of Adonay. So the answer to the question, do secret societies worship Satan is an astounding yes! The Luciferian Doctrine however states definitely that Lucifer led the Heavenly revolt; that Satan is the oldest son of God (Adonay) and the brother of Saint Michael who defeated the Luciferian conspiracy in Heaven. The Luciferian teachings also claim that Saint Michael came on earth in the person of Jesus Christ to try to repeat what he had done in Heaven ... and failed. https://www.youtube.com/c/MindfulThoughts Know the truth that secret societies devoutly worship Satan because Lucifer, Satan, the Devil — call him what you may — is the father of lies, it would appear that those spiritual forces of darkness deceive as many as possible so called intellectuals into doing their will here as they did in heaven. Without getting into controversy it should be easy for the average Christian to realize that there are TWO supernatural powers. One we refer to as God to whom the Scriptures give many names; and the other, the Devil, who also seems to have many names. The important thing to remember is that according to Revelations there is to be a final judgment. We are told that those who defect from God will be ruled in utter chaos and confusion by Lucifer, Satan, or the Devil, for all eternity and will hate their ruler, themselves, and each other because they will realize they were deceived into defecting from God and losing his love and friendship forever. https://www.youtube.com/c/MindfulThoughts Once a person reads Pawns In The Game and The Red Fog Over America it will be easy to realize that the struggle going on is NOT of a worldly or temporal nature. It originated in that part of the universe we designate “The Celestial World”; its purpose is to win the souls of men away from God Almighty as secret societies devoutly worship Satan on an ongoing basis. Look at the music industry and Hollywood. Do you not see the Satanic symbols employed to manipulate the minds of the youth? As if to say, “this is the bomb, rad so join us!” Really? Is everyone so blind that you can’t see the game plan and manipulation?https://www.youtube.com/c/MindfulThoughts Learned theologians have stated that Lucifer, Satan, or call the head of the Forces of Evil simply “The Devil” knows he did wrong and knows that he was wrong. He is a pure spirit and therefore indestructible. Knowing he is wrong he still is determined to drag as many souls as possible into hell with him to share his misery. This being a fact our duty is clear. We have to make known the TRUTH in this regard to as many others as quickly as possible so they can avoid the snares and pit-falls set by those who serve the devil’s purpose and penetrate the lies and deceits of those who wander about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Wars and revolutions give the devil his greatest harvests of human souls, because “so many are called and so few are chosen” Matt. 20; 16; 22: 14. We so often hear what is going on in the world to-day referred to as “A war for the minds of men”. That is only a half truth and is worse than a whole lie. Secret Societies Devoutly Worship Satan so it’s not only a war for the minds of men, it is a war for the souls of men. https://www.youtube.com/c/MindfulThoughts Source: Carr, William Guy. "Reiwa(令和)" What is the new Japanese imperial era and how will it affect everyday life?

2019/04/01 On Monday 1 April, the name of Japan's new imperial era was announced. The reveal of the new imperial era, Reiwa, marks less than a month until Crown Prince Naruhito ascends to the Chrysanthemum Throne as emperor. Naruhito will take the place of his father, Emperor Akihito, who has ruled since 1989 and will become the first monarch in 200 years to abdicate the throne. Emperor Akihito's 30-year period of rule has been known as the Heisei era, which translates to mean "achieving peace". So what is the meaning of Reiwa and how will the new imperial era affect everyday life? Here's everything you need to know: - What is the meaning of Reiwa? The name of Japan's new imperial era was announced during a news conference by chief cabinet secretary, Yoshihide Suga, in Tokyo, Japan. The name consists of two characters "令 (rei)" and "和 (wa)", which were presented by Suga on a white placard. The first character in the name means "order" or "command", while the second means "peace" or "harmony", Reuters reports. During the news conference, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe stated: "The name Reiwa means that culture is born and grows when people come together and care for each other beautifully." - How was the name Reiwa chosen? The names of Japanese eras are usually taken from ancient Chinese texts. The previous era Heisei, for example, was given its name from two Chinese history and philosophy books, former chief cabinet secretary and prime minister Keizo Obuchi announced when the era began. Reiwa departs from tradition, as its name has taken inspiration from an ancient collection of Japanese poetry called the Manyoshu. The 7th century Manyoshu is the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry. "It is a collection which expresses our nation's rich culture, which we should take pride in, along with our nation's beautiful nature," Abe said of the Japanese poetry collection. "We believe this national character should be passed along to the next era." - How will the new era affect everyday life in Japan? When unveiling then name of the new imperial era, Suga explained how he hopes Reiwa will positively impact the Japanese nation. "We hope it will be widely accepted by the people and deeply rooted as part of their daily lives," he said. While Japan uses the western Gregorian calendar, the country also denotes the year by using the name of the current imperial era. Therefore, when Reiwa officially begins on Wednesday 1 May, 2019 will also become known as "Reiwa 1". The era name will be used on official documents, coins, calendars and newspapers.

„Nic. Vražda? Šílená teorie kolem Mináře a Milionu chvilek. Kuciak dvě? Petr Hampl nastínil hrozné věci

    06.12.2019, 18:11

A přichází s děsivou teorií ohledně Mikuláše Mináře a s tím, co by pak prý následovalo.

    Lubomír Man 04.12.2019, 00:10

Navezli do východního bloku miliardy tun západní nadvýroby – převraty v soc. dem. bloku pomohly Západu oddálit agónii nekryté měny a zadluženosti. Následující kolaps se už bude týkat i nás.

Město v Bosně: migranti jsou všude

    Autor neuveden 02.12.2019, 00:10
